ILLINOIS — Astronomical winter officially started at 4:23 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 with the winter solstice. Friday has the shortest daylight hours of the year. Although it is now officially winter, there is no major snowfall in the forecast this weekend.
Friday night will be partly cloudy with temps dropping down to 26 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. During the day Saturday, it will be mostly sunny and near 36 degrees.
Saturday night could see the potential for some light snow and freezing drizzle, the NWS said. Impacts could include slick spots for motorists and pedestrians. There will be little if any accumulation of snow.

After Saturday's precipitation, Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 37 degrees, the NWS said.

- SATURDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of drizzle and snow before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of freezing drizzle between 11 p.m. and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. South wind around 5 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- SUNDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 37. West wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
- SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23.
