Old Quarry Gives 'Warrior Spirit Subject Award' To 40 Eighth Graders

The award is given annually to eighth grade students who demonstrate characteristics of kindness, growth, community, justice and zeal.

LEMONT, IL — Last week, Old Quarry Middle School honored 40 eighth grade students who have demonstrated the Warrior Spirit Subject Award. This is given annually to eighth grade students who demonstrate characteristics of kindness, growth, community, justice and zeal, the school said in a release.

Each eighth grade teacher nominated two students in their subject area. The 2023 award winners were: Andrew Ascolani, Anthony Mielczarek, Anna Barwick, Edvin Morochin, Emily Bawiec, Elizabeth Mroz, Alexander Brown, Ella Noetzel, Matthew Butler, Lila O’Neill, Scott Cutlip, Cole Perakis, Charles Duerr, Sydney Peterson-Yates, Emmett Farrell, Colin Pobiega, Nell Fedko, Rihanna Rexhepi, Allyson Fluder, Ishan Samani, Annabelle Franzese, Karson Shoup, Robert Herout, Vytaute Simenaite, Oliver Huhn, Hailey St. Hilaire, Ella Kincaid, Daniela Sutas, Alexis Kopinski, Evangeline Topete, Karolina Kroplewski, Owen Tosch, Erin Leden, Mark Walus, Jennifer LeDesma and Austin Warren.

The school also gave the Legacy Award to three students, "who exemplify to the highest standard, those qualities that make an Old Quarry Warrior," a news release states.

"They are curious learners, compassionate and empathetic classmates, and eager participants who navigate the challenges and opportunities of middle school with grace and enthusiasm," the school said.

The following students were chosen by the staff of Old Quarry Middle School: Andrew Ascolani, Hailey St. Hilaire and Evangeline Topete.
