Old Quarry Students Participate in Technology Training
The students spent Friday learning hands-on applications of technology.

On Friday, November 21, 2014, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students from Old Quarry Middle School particpated in a day long technology training called TEAM. They began the day learning about coding by visiting the website code.org a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding participation in computer science. Students commented that the work was hard “but fun.” They continued the day working on making video presentations using iMovie, wevideo, and Animoto. After lunch the TEAM participants began to produce their own “screen casts.” A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing audio narration. Students used the screen cast to narrate the coding exercises they participated in earlier in the day.
Under the supervision of Mrs. Meg Ormiston and District 113 Instructional Technology Coordinator Tracy Simon, the students had an exciting day of learning and hands on technology experiences that they will bring back to their classrooms as student tech leaders.
