Winfield Man Killed After Train Hits Car In Unincorporated Lemont
The incident occurred Wednesday morning in unincorporated Lemont.
LEMONT, IL — One person was killed in unincorporated Lemont after an Amtrak train hit a vehicle on Wednesday morning. The Lemont Fire Department said the incident happened at 9:24 a.m. as a car crossed the railroad tracks on Boyer Street.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Scott Krefft, 63, of Winfield.
An Amtrak spokesperson said the incident occurred between Train 300 and a vehicle on the tracks. Krefft was the only one in the vehicle struck by the train, according to the fire department. The incident is being investigated by the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

The train was coming from St. Louis and headed to Chicago and was delayed 2 hours due to the incident. Amtrak said there were no injuries to any of the train's crew or passengers.
Krefft was working near the private crossing as part of a survey crew, according to WGN.
