Opening Day Planned For Lemont Quarrymen Vintage Baseball Club

The Quarrymen will face the Oregon Ganymedes, the McLean County Prairie Chickens and the Milwaukee Grays.

LEMONT, IL — The vintage baseball club, the Lemont Quarrymen, will play their opening day home games on June 24 at Mount Assisi Field, 13900 Main St.

The Quarrymen will face the Oregon Ganymedes, the McLean County Prairie Chickens and the Milwaukee Grays.

Opening day begins at noon, and it is a free event, open to the public.

Spectators can grab a lawn chair and enjoy watching an old-fashioned vintage baseball game. Vintage baseball is a pastime played by 1858 rules, according to the team. Teams competing wear period reproduction uniforms, use period authentic equipment and follow baseball rules from the 19th century in order to accurately present the history of baseball to the public.

The team is sponsored by the Lemont Area Historical Society, and was started in 2011.
