OQMS Students attend Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

Engineering, Science, and Technology

Congratulations to the following Old Quarry Eighth Grade girls who recently attended the Argonne National Labs Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day: Isabella Wilton
Claudia Palarz, Annette Winterland, Molly Thornber, Hiba Ayub, Kalli Tulipano, Megan Sawatzky, Tarika Oberi, Zoe Howe, Anne Marie Bacon, Erin Gottardo, Kaitlyn Tuvilleja, Sophia Cutinello, Nawal Khankan, and Jovanique Osafoh. On February 22nd Women in Science and Technology in conjunction with Argonne Education hosted the annual event exclusive to 8th-grade girls in the greater Chicagoland area. The all-day conference took place at Argonne National Laboratories. This day gives female students a unique opportunity to discover Engineering careers alongside world-class scientists and engineers. The girls in attendance were able to enjoy motivational presentations by fellow female engineers, tour Argonne’s cutting-edge research facilities, connect with a mentor, engage in hands-on experiments, and compete in a team challenge. Congratulations to our girls for applying to the program and attending. The 8th-grade science teachers(Mrs. Osmani, Ms. Janda, and Mrs. Ehn) are so glad that you took the opportunity to attend the conference and hope that it further sparked your interests in pursuing a career in STEM. To learn more about the annual event click here. The Argonne facebook page also has a 30-minute live video showing all of the stations the girls visited.
