Park District Cancels 4th Of July Event, Plans Drive-By Parade
The Independence Day Extravaganza and fireworks show has been canceled, but the park district is planning "America's Birthday" parade.
LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Park District has canceled the Independence Day Extravaganza and fireworks show due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the park district will be offering "America's Birthday Parade" on July 3 in place of the normal Independence Day event.
With the recent introduction of the Restore Illinois plan, the park district determined that hosting the Independence Day Extravaganza and fireworks would not be possible under current guidelines.
"The fireworks show only was considered, however, with so many other community fireworks being cancelled, it's more than likely even larger crowds would be drawn Lemont," the park district said.
