Police Share Video Of Attempted Car Burglary, Remind To Lock Cars

Police said Lemont has once again been experiencing car burglaries from unlocked cars.

LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Police Department has shared a video from a resident who caught several people trying the locks on their car doors before fleeing in another vehicle. Police said Lemont has once again been experiencing car burglaries from unlocked cars.

"The thefts are committed by juveniles who travel the interstate system victimizing the communities close to interchanges," police said. "We typically see these crews in the areas bordering the expressway. As those areas become target-hardened due to residents diligently locking their vehicles, the thieves are moving inward to subdivisions where unlocked vehicles are more prevalent."

Police said the crews only target vehicles which are unlocked, and if your car is locked as shown in the video, they usually run away.
