Possible Severe Storms Roll In; Rain And Storms This Week For IL

Before the work week begins, possible severe storms will roll into the area Sunday and Monday. According to the National Weather Service, there is a significant thunderstorm risk on Sunday with possible winds of up to 60 mph and hail.

The NWS said storms will impact most of northern Illinois Sunday evening. Large hail is possible with storms, but damaging winds are also a possible concern.

Storms and rain are also expected Monday, with a slight risk for severe weather. According to the NWS, temps will be near 82 on Monday. The rest of the week features a chance of rain and storms throughout, but temps will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Here is a look at your forecast for this week:

• MONDAY: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m. High near 82. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• MONDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 7 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 60. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• TUESDAY: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
• TUESDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
• WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77.
• WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 55.
• THURSDAY: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 76.
• THURSDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.
• FRIDAY: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 77.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.
