In recognition of her support of Illinois law enforcement, State Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) received an award July 1 for championing efforts to protect drug enforcement officials. In 2012, Senator Radogno sponsored House Bill 4081, legislation that provides an exemption in the state’s eavesdropping law for undercover narcotics officers.
House Bill 4081 took effect on Jan. 1, 2013, allowing officers who are investigating a felony drug violation to record or listen to conversations during the course of that investigation without a court order; the officers would need to obtain prior approval from the State’s Attorney. The law gives law enforcement greater flexibility during investigations targeting felony drug cases.
