Rents all going up.
All expenses are increasing, food, gas, rents, house tax increases. Many are living from paycheck to paycheck.
All Rents and house taxes are going up, as unfair as it is. Even more unfair for Senior citizens living on fixed incomes that do not go up. Grace View Senior Apartments on Talcott under new management have been hit hard. One example, the highest rent increase from $815 per month to $1231.00 per month. A $416 increase for the new lease, 51%increase for all the same 696 sq. ft. units all with only one entry way. The few lower increases going from $935 to $1009.00. $74 increase which is a little easier to handle.
Management nicely explained to the Seniors, if the rent is unable to be paid, there are many new applicants that are more than willing to pay the stated rent. Another option is obtaining family help financially, move in with them, or apply to Section 8.
The Illinois Housing Authority, HUD, and Section 42 Tax Credit of the Affordable Housing Program have set these rates. The Property manager is under these guidelines, so they can and did increase to the maximum. The residents are holding on for a rough ride!
