Safe Stolen During Ruse Burglary In Lemont: Sheriff
During the ruse burglary Monday, the homeowner went inside with one of the men to discuss the offer, and left the other two men outside.
LEMONT, IL — A safe containing personal documents was stolen during a ruse burglary in Lemont Monday, the Cook County Sheriff's Police said. Police responded to a home in the 12800 block of Artesian Street at 4:40 p.m. Monday and met with the homeowner after the incident.
The homeowner told police that earlier that day three men came to his house and offered to fix his driveway. According to police, the homeowner went inside with one of the men to discuss the offer, and left the other two men outside. The homeowner said while he was talking to the man, he thought he heard footsteps on the stairs in his home.
After the men left, police said the homeowner found his safe had been stolen. Nothing of monetary value was taken, and police continue to investigate the incident.

The Cook County Sheriff's Police reminds residents not to let anyone you are not expecting into your home; talk through the door; and if the person says he or she is utility employee, call that agency to verify that an employee has legitimate business at your home. Do not use the phone number the person at the door gives you. Lastly, call 911 immediately if you encounter anyone suspicious.
