Education of Young Women: The Root of Our Story

In the spirit of our foundress, Mother Margareta Pucher, since 1869, the School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King have responded to the needs of God’s people and have served in various ministries through the world, primarily education. In the United States, they opened Mt. Assisi Academy in 1951 with a mission to provide high-quality Catholic secondary education for young women in the Franciscan tradition.

For 63 years, MAA kept this mission alive, serving as many as 6000 students over the years. Mount Assisi offered a place of growth, challenge, and faith in the Franciscan tradition to the young women who daily “climbed” the Assisi hill in Lemont.

Though the school is no longer open, its mission remains alive. With our historic calling as a basis, the School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King continue to live the mission of educating the young.

It is our hope that through this scholarship program we can continue the Mt. Assisi legacy for young women whose mothers and/or grandmothers carry the Mt. Assisi spirit. With this, we desire to help provide them with access to academic excellence in a faith-filled atmosphere at a Catholic high school. The Sisters hope that each young woman who receives this scholarship award, will be able to continue her education with the spirit of the Franciscan values that guided our ministry at Mt. Assisi Academy for its 63-year history.

Assisi Scholarship

The School Sisters of St. Francis of Christ the King (Mount Assisi Convent- Lemont) are offering two $2500 scholarships to young women who currently attend or who will attend a Catholic High School and whose mothers and/or grandmothers attended Mount Assisi Academy.
