Scott Darling's New Mask Covered in Tributes to Chicago

Darling comes from Lemont, but his heart is with the city whose jersey he wears.

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling just signed a two-year contract extension with the team, and from the look of his new mask, he hopes to stick around a lot longer than that.

Designed by artist Jason Livery from Head Strong Grafx, the helmet is covered with artistic references to Chicago, including the Blues Brothers, the lions stationed outside the Art Institute, the Bean, the ferris wheel at Navy Pier, the Willis Tower—and more.

Darling—a native of Lemont—debuted the mask Wednesday night.

Darling even pays homage to Blackhawks equipment manager Clint Reif, who died ealier this year, with the initials “C.R.” on the back of the helmet. The words “Luctor et Emergo”—which translates to ’I Struggle and I Win’) are also emblazoned on the helmet, to signify Darling’s battle with and overcoming of alcoholism.
