Severe Storms Possible, Stormy Weekend Ahead For IL

Severe storms are possible Friday evening, and storms will also be likely throughout the weekend.

ILLINOIS — Heavy downpours and possibly severe weather will kick off the weekend Friday. Severe weather has prompted several warnings and watches throughout the area. A flash flood watch has been issued for Cook, De Kalb, DuPage, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Lee, Livingston, Ogle and Will counties. The watch is in effect until late Friday night.

The NWS said the second round of storms could include hail up to quarter size and strong wind gusts up to 60 mph. Severe storms are possible west of a Rockford-Aurora-Pontiac Line.

After storms on Friday, the rest of the weekend looks rainy and stormy as well. The high for Saturday is 74 degrees, and there is a chance of rain during the day and a chance of storms at night, the NWS said.

Sunday looks similar, although slightly warmer with a high of 82 degrees. The NWS said storms are possible Sunday during the day, as well as rain and storms at night.

  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between midnight and 4 a.m. Low around 62. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
  • SATURDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. North northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
  • SATURDAY NIGHT: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • SUNDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Southeast wind around 5 mph.
  • SUNDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.
