105-Degree Heat Index, Severe Storms: Chicago Weather

"Hot and oppressively humid" weather Sunday afternoon, plus possible severe storms at night.

A hot and stormy beginning of the week is ahead as a heat advisory is in effect through 6 p.m. Monday for much of the Chicago area. First, possibly severe storms will roll into the area on Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, scattered storms are possible Sunday afternoon into the evening, and are most likely along and north of I-80.

"The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible," the National Weather Service said. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors." If you don't have air conditioning, check with your village of city government to find an available cooling center.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday could also see some storms, and hot and humid conditions are expected through Tuesday, the NWS said. Heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees are possible for the start of the week.
