Severe Storms Possible, Temps Heat Back Up To 90 Degrees

The cool, fall-like weather on Friday is not here to stay. Temperatures will rise back up in the 80s on Saturday, and climb even higher into the 90s on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a chance of storms throughout the weekend, including a limited risk for severe storms on Friday night and an elevated risk for severe storms on Sunday.

According to the NWS, thunderstorms are possible across the area on Friday night. Strong to severe storms are possible mainly west of I-57 in northern Illinois. These storms could produce large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

There is a 30 percent chance of storms on Saturday during the day, and a 20 percent chance Saturday night. Sunday also has a chance of storms, with a 30 to 50 percent chance north of I-80 on Sunday night. Both Saturday and Sunday will be humid, according to the NWS. The hot and humid temps continue into the beginning of the work week, before temps cool down starting Wednesday.

• FRIDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• SATURDAY: A slight chance of showers before 7 a.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
• SUNDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73.
