Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Air Quality Alert in Effect

Storms are expected to sweep through the Lemont area Saturday afternoon and evening, potentially producing strong winds, hail and heavy rainfall.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in the  area until 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service warns that storms could move into the area Saturday afternoon and evening. The storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph and quarter-size hail, along with heavy rainfall.

Heat indices Saturday afternoon could reach or exceed 100 degrees, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service.

The Environmental Protection Agency of Illinois is also forecasting unhealthy air quality across the Chicago metro area. An air quality alert is in affect until midnight.
