Severe Storm Watch Still In Effect For Chicago Area

ILLINOIS — Another day of severe weather is expected and many areas around Chicagoland have power outages, flooding or tree limbs down. A severe thunderstorm watch is still in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday and includes Boone, Champaign, De Witt, Grundy, Jo Daviess, Kendall, Lee, McHenry, Peoria, Stark, Vermilion, Winnebago, Bureau, Cook, DuPage, Henry, Kane, Lake, Livingston, McLean, Piatt, Stephenson, Whiteside, Woodford, Carroll, DeKalb, Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee, La Salle, Marshall, Ogle, Putnam, Tazelwell and Will counties.

According to the National Weather Service, strong to severe storms are possible Sunday afternoon, and strong winds and hail will be the primary threats. There will also be heavy rain, which could cause localized flash flooding.

The NWS said the timing for the storms will be 1 to 4 p.m. for areas north of I-80 and 3 to 7 p.m. for areas south of I-80. Additional thunderstorms are also possible Sunday evening through the overnight hours.
