Snow, Freezing Rain To Start The Week In IL

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Monday evening through Tuesday morning.

Snow, ice and rain are headed our way as we start the work week. A winter weather advisory has been issued beginning Monday at 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. Tuesday for Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties. The National Weather Service said mixed precipitation is expected. A mix of freezing rain and snow on Monday evening will transition to freezing rain Monday night into Tuesday morning. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with the highest accumulations to the north. Ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected, with the highest accumulations to the south.

After the precipitation on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday looks mostly sunny with a high of 31 degrees, according to the NWS. There is a slight chance of rain on Thursday morning, but temps will be mild at 42 degrees. Lastly, Friday could see some more rain and snow and the temp will be 34 degrees.

According to the NWS, another low pressure system could impact the region Thursday night through Friday night. The track of the system isn't certain yet, but accumulating snow could be possible.

  • MONDAY: A chance of snow and freezing drizzle before 3 p.m., then a chance of snow and freezing rain between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., then snow likely after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 32. East northeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • MONDAY NIGHT: Snow and freezing rain before 4 a.m., then freezing rain between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., then rain after 5 a.m. Low around 32. East northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • TUESDAY: Rain likely before 11 a.m., then rain and snow likely between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., then a chance of snow after 3 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Breezy, with an east wind 10 to 20 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
  • TUESDAY NIGHT: A 50 percent chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Blustery.
  • WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.
  • WEDNESDSAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24.
  • THURSDAY: A slight chance of rain after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42.
