Dangerous Morning Commute Due To Ice, Snow For Illinois

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

ILLINOIS — A winter weather system will cause a messy morning commute on Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday for McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties.

The NWS said a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain is expected, with total snow accumulations up to 1 to 2 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Snow will increase across the area from southwest to northeast. The snow and ice could impact the Wednesday morning commute, and drivers should plan on slippery road conditions.

Most of the area could see up to 2 inches of snow, and the NWS said snow may transition to freezing rain south of I-80 before daybreak. Warmer air is shifting in from the south, so the far south suburbs will transition to just plain rain.
