Snow Possible, Rain Likely All Weekend In IL

Rain is likely Friday night and Saturday, and even some thunderstorms could hit the area Saturday.

ILLINOIS — If you were hoping for a nice post-Thanksgiving weekend, you may be out of luck. Rain is expected Friday night and Saturday, and snow is possible for the Chicago area Sunday.

The National Weather Service said rain will start late Friday night and continue into Saturday. There could even be some thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night.

Rain will start off the day Sunday, and rain and snow showers are possible before 1 p.m. and then again after 4 p.m. The weather service said winds could also gust as high as 20 mph. Snow showers are also likely Sunday night.

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast for this weekend:

  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Rain, mainly after 11 p.m. Low around 34. East wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • SATURDAY: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. High near 41. East southeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • SATURDAY NIGHT: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers. Low around 36. East southeast wind 10 to 15 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.
  • SUNDAY: Rain and snow showers before 1 p.m., then rain showers between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., then rain and snow showers after 4 p.m. High near 39. Southwest wind around 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
  • SUNDAY NIGHT: Snow showers likely before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
