ILLINOIS — Trick-or-treaters could be trudging through a few inches of snow on Halloween. The National Weather Service said a strong storm system will hit the area late Wednesday night into Thursday with rain then changing over to snow.

Once again, a winter weather advisory has been issued for the Chicago area. An advisory has been issued for DuPage and Cook counties from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. A winter weather advisory has also been issued for Lake, Kane, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy and Livingston counties from 12 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The weather service said wet snow is expected, and total accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches. Southern Cook County and Chicago will receive an inch or less of snow.
