Stewardship Saturdays at the Heritage Woodland Sanctuary

Lemont Township is kicking off the spring season in our Heritage Woodland Sanctuary with prairie restoration activities at top of mind. As new blooms are sprouting around our almost 60 acres, a new committee has been formed, and an enthusiastic group of volunteers have already raised their hand to be a part of this year’s initiatives.

Protect. Preserve. Keep it beautiful!

Come out to support the stewardship efforts in the Heritage Woodland Sanctuary. Participate in restoration activities, educational opportunities, and special events focusing on enhancing the pollinator plant populations right here in Lemont. The monarchs and bees need our help.

If you have not been to our Heritage Woodland Sanctuary, we strongly encourage you to do so. It is designed for passive recreation. Relax and escape the hectic pace of the day to day and unplug. You can walk the peaceful acres of the restored prairie and take in all the natural beauty. Hawks, crows, coyotes, deer, and rabbits make this area home on the west side of our village. It truly is an impression section of land, and we are grateful to our previous administration teams that served here at Lemont Township to make this open space possible for all Lemont residents.

Back in 2001, the residents of Lemont Township set tax dollars aside through an open space referendum to invest in open land and created this community gathering place. Our Heritage Woodland Sanctuary was created to provide a place where visitors can enjoy nature and escape from our hectic busy lifestyles. Here you will find walking trails that expose you to native plants, restored Illinois prairie grasses and wildlife. Another very important goal is to further educate and teach visitors the value of nature as a routine part of our life.

• SATURDAY, AUGUST 23 - 9AM TO 12NOON
• SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 - 9AM TO 12NOON
• SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18 - 9AM TO 12NOON
