Storms With Hail, Damaging Winds Approach Chicago Area

Thunderstorms will begin in northwest and north central Illinois and then spread eastward, likely weakening with time.

Strong thunderstorms will approach the Chicago area in the early to mid-evening hours on Monday. The National Weather Service said thunderstorms will begin in northwest and north central Illinois and then spread eastward, likely weakening with time.

The storms should last through a bit after sunset, and the strongest storms could become severe, with an isolated risk for large hail or damaging winds, according to the NWS.

The NWS said storms continue to move east northeast at 40 mph. Isolated storms are also expected to develop south of I-80. The storms will produce heavy downpours, lightning and small hail with isolated larger hail possible.
