Storms, Some Severe, Roll Into IL

Thursday and Friday both have a chance of storms, and some severe storms could be in the area on Friday.

After several days of dry weather, some storms may roll into the area on Thursday and Friday. According to the National Weather Service, there is an elevated thunderstorm risk Thursday night. Scattered thunderstorms are likely, and the primary threats with these storms will be lightning and heavy rain.

Friday has a limited severe thunderstorm risk, and there is also a high swim risk on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. According to the NWS, a beach hazards statement has been issued through Friday morning, as high waves and dangerous swimming conditions are expected.

Severe storms are possible on Friday, the NWS said, and storms are most likely along and north of I-80.

THURSDAY: A chance of thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

THURSDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 67. South southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

FRIDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind around 15 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. West northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
