ILLINOIS — The start of the work week will include some thunderstorms and temps in the 80s for the Chicago area. The National Weather Service said a cold front passing late Tuesday could support the chance of storms, with hail and damaging winds a possibility.

After a round of early morning storms, more severe weather could move into the area mid-afternoon through early evening on Tuesday. Morning storms could bring winds of 40 to 55 mph, as well as hail.

A strong cold front is expected to approach during the mid to late afternoon, and evening storms could hit between 4 and 10 p.m., bringing lightning, winds of 40 to 60 mph, quarter- to ping pong ball-sized hail and a low tornado risk. The biggest risk is expected east of I-57.
