Gusts Up To 50 MPH Could Cause Power Outages, Downed Limbs

A wind advisory has been issued through early Wednesday.

After Monday night's ice storm, some strong wind gusts will now move into the area. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory until 3 a.m. Wednesday for Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Will, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois and Ford counties.

The NWS said strong winds will develop Tuesday afternoon and continue through early Wednesday. Winds could gust up to 45 to 50 mph. Since there is a significant amount of ice on trees and power lines, the strong winds could result in downed tree limbs and power lines.

Many communities saw over 1/4" of ice accretion as of 6 a.m. Tuesday. Aurora Airport measure .5" of ice, while Midway saw .46" and O'Hare was close behind with .44".

Travel could also be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles on north to south roads, according to the NWS. Some scattered snow showers are also possible with these winds. The winds could also cause blowing snow and visibility reductions.
