Summer Heat Begins, Temps In The Upper 80s For IL

ILLINOIS — After about a month of rainy weather and milder temperatures, the Chicago area may see some of the highest temps of the summer so far during the later part of the work week. The National Weather Service said showers and storms will stick around on Monday, and there's a chance of storms throughout the day. The high for Monday will be warmer at 82 degrees.

Tuesday will have a similar high of 83 degrees, and should be breezy, but dry. The NWS said storms are possible late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The sun will be out for the rest of the work week, and the heat will begin on Wednesday, which has a high of 87 degrees. Thursday will be even warmer with a high of 89 degrees and it will be humid. Lastly, Friday has a forecasted high of 87 degrees.

• MONDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
