Super Bowl Weekend Weather: 1 To 3 Inches Of Snow, Cold Temps

Most of the suburbs will see 1 to 3 inches of snow, with up to 4 inches in some locations.

Snow is returning to Illinois, just in time for the Super Bowl on Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, most of the suburbs will see 1 to 3 inches of snow, with up to 4 inches in some locations. The snow is set to begin Saturday night and continue into Sunday morning, although some flurries are also possible on Friday night.

With the snow will also come cold temperatures and wind. According to the NWS, Saturday will be slightly warmer, with a high of 36, but it will drop down to 25 degrees on Saturday night and winds could gust up to 30 mph. Sunday only has a high of 26, and winds could gust up to 25 mph. The snow should end before 12 p.m. on Sunday.

The weekend won't be the end of the snow, as more is forecast for Monday. The exact accumulation for Monday's snow isn't known yet, but there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation, most likely after 12 p.m.

Here is a look at your forecast this weekend:

  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Scattered flurries with a slight chance of snow between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a temperature rising to around 19 by 4 a.m. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • SATURDAY: A 20 percent chance of snow after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 36. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
  • SATURDAY NIGHT: Snow, mainly after 9 p.m. Low around 25. South southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • SUNDAY: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 26. North northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
  • SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy, with a low around 3.
  • MONDAY: Snow likely after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 21. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
