Blackhawks newbie goaltender Scott Darling has earned fans—and won hearts—with outstanding performances in the team’s first-round playoff series against the Nashville Predators.

With 42 blocked shots in his performance as relief goalie in game 1, and then swiping and saving the team’s way to victory in game 3, and gritting out three overtimes in game 4, die-hards are sweet on Darling. The 26-year-old Lemont native has played in five overtimes in his first three career playoff games.

Darling came up big with 50 saves in Tuesday’s game against the Nashville Predators, which lasted 101 minutes—three overtimes.

“It was an exciting game. It was a real war,” Darling told ESPN around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, after beating the Predators 3-2. “They played great. It was a great ice hockey game, just a classic game. I’m a little bit tired but excited to go to bed. I’ll be fine tomorrow.”
