Taste Of Summer This Week As Temps Rise To 80 Degrees In IL

The Chicago area will be getting an early taste of summer this week, as temperatures will climb above 80 degrees. With the heat will also come some chances for thunderstorms throughout the week. According to the National Weather Service, the warmest day will be Tuesday, which has a high of 81 degrees. Wednesday isn't too far behind with a high of 80 degrees, although there is a chance of thunderstorms.

The warm-up will begin Monday, according to the NWS. The high will be 76, and it will be breezy with gusts up to 30 mph. The heat will stick around for Tuesday and Wednesday, and the chance of thunderstorms continues on Thursday. Thursday has a high of 78 degrees, but the weather will start to cool down on Friday. Friday has a high of 69 with a slight chance of showers.

The strength of the thunderstorms this week isn't known, but some could yield significant rainfall, according to the NWS.

• TUESDAY: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
• TUESDAY NIGHT: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61.
• WEDNESDAY: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.
• WEDNESDAY NIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 61.
• THURSDAY: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a high near 75.
