60-Degree Temps, Rain, Possible Storms: IL Week-Ahead Weather

ILLINOIS — Rain and thunderstorms will hit the area once again mid-week. According to the National Weather Service, another strong storm system will affect the Midwest and a period of rain and thunderstorms is likely. There is also the potential for strong winds on Thursday.

Winds were also strong on Saturday, and many areas had gusts over 50 mphs. According to the NWS, Valparaiso airport saw 58 mph gusts, Midway saw 54 mph gusts, Peru airport saw 53 mph gusts and the Gary airport saw 52 mph gusts.

Temperatures in the beginning of the week will be more seasonable, with a high of 42 on Monday and a high of 48 on Tuesday, the NWS said.

However, the temps later in the week will be some of mildest we've seen so far this year. According to the NWS, the high for Wednesday is 57 degrees while the high on Thursday is 66 degrees.

• MONDAY: Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 39. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

• TUESDAY: Sunny, with a high near 46. Calm wind becoming south southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph.
• TUESDAY NIGHT: Rain likely after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
• WEDNESDAY: Rain, mainly before 1 p.m. High near 55. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
• WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Breezy.
• THURSDAY: A slight chance of rain after 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 63. Breezy.
• THURSDAY NIGHT: A slight chance of rain before 5 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Breezy.
