Thousands Of Pounds Of Fireworks Found In Lemont Township Residence

LEMONT, IL — One person is in custody after police found more than 4,000 pounds of fireworks and materials to create fireworks at a residence in the 14800 block of Kotlin Road in unincorporated Lemont.

Douglas Randall, 25, of Lemont, has been cited for violation of a county fireworks ordinance, according to Cook County Sheriff's Office. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis, both misdemeanors. Additional charges are pending, the sheriff's office said.

According to a release from Cook County Sheriff's Department, officers responded to a domestic trouble call at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at a residence in Lemont Township. While investigating the call, police saw what appeared to be boxes of fireworks just inside the front door.

After receiving consent from one of the residents to search the home, officers found a large amount of fireworks inside, according to a release. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Office of Mines and Minerals and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives were contacted to assist.

Police said approximately 4,000 pounds of fireworks and approximately 40 pounds of commercial grade and homemade fireworks were recovered. Materials to make fireworks such as flash powder, tubes, fuses and plugs were also recovered.
