Three Lemont Student-Athletes Make College Commitments
Three Lemont High School seniors have made commitments to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
LEMONT, IL — Three Lemont High School seniors have made commitments to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. The school said the student-athletes are cross country runner Daina Maleiska (Purdue University-Northwest), basketball player Garan Polic (St. Ambrose University) and swimmer Ray Scribano (St. Norbert College).
Daina Maleiska – Career Highlights
- Three-year member of head coach Tim Plotke’s girls’ cross country program
- Helped the team to two South Suburban Conference-Blue Division titles and two IHSA Class 2A Cross Country State Finals berths, and twice earned all-conference accolades
- Placed third at the 2018 SSC Blue Meet as a senior, earning All-SSC accolades
- Was Lemont’s second finisher (9th overall) in regional competition and its third finisher (26th overall) in sectional competition
- Crossed the line fourth among Lemont runners in a personal-best 19:25.6, as Lemont finished 18th at the 2018 IHSA Class 2A State Finals
- Also a four-year member of Plotke’s girls’ track and field program
- Two-time All-SSC performer in the pole vault who has established a personal best of 8’0”
- Also has established personal bests in the high jump (4’9”). triple jump (29’10”), 800 meter run (2:38) and 1600 meter run (5:50)
- High Honor Roll and National Honor Society student
- Signed a National Letter of Intent to run for head coach Austin Warner at Purdue University-Northwest, an NCAA Division II institution that is located in Westville, Indiana, and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

- Earned two varsity letters playing for head coach Rick Runaas Served as a starter as a senior in 2018-19 and played in 29 of 31 games
- 6’2” guard/forward who played the role of the team’s “glue guy”
- Ranked third on the team in rebounding and steals, and was fourth in deflections
- Converted on better than 54 percent of his attempts inside the arc, which was third among Lemont’s regulars
- Earned the Lemont Basketball Coaches’ Award, thanks in part to his willingness to play wherever he was needed
- Lemont posted a 16-15 record, finished fourth in the South Suburban Conference-Blue Division, and was an IHSA Class 4A Regional Finalist
- High Honor Roll and National Honor Society student who was a Loyola University Scholar last summer
- Signed a National Letter of Intent to play for head coach Ray Shovlain at St. Ambrose University, an NAIA institution that is located in Davenport, Iowa, and is a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Ray Scribano – Career Highlights
- Earned four varsity swimming letters, including the final two under head coach Mike Beranek
- Helped Lemont to four consecutive runner-up finishes in the South Suburban Conference-Blue Division
- Served as a team captain as a senior in 2018-19
- Placed third in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 100 backstroke at the 2019 SSC Blue Meet, and was part of the runner-up 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams
- Placed eighth in the 100 butterfly in sectional competition with a personal best time of 58.88
- Posted conference runner-up finishes in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, setting a personal best time of 1:01.79 in the latter, as a junior at the 2018 SSC Blue Meet
- Was part of a 200 medley relay team that placed second in a school-record time (1:44.56), as well as a runner-up 400 freestyle relay team
- Was part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team that set a school record (3:26.86), as well as a runner-up 200 medley squad
- Swam for the Lemont Dolphins
- High Honor Roll student
- Will swim for head coach Franco Pacheco at St. Norbert College, an NCAA Division III institution that is located in De Pere, Wisconsin, and is a member of the Midwest Conference.
