Tornado Risk, Severe Weather For Chicago Area Thursday

More widespread storms will develop across northwest and north central Illinois later Thursday afternoon and start to move into Chicagoland.

ILLINOIS — Scattered severe weather is possible late Thursday afternoon and into the evening. According to the National Weather Service, there is an elevated thunderstorm risk with limited damaging wind risk with possible gusts of 40 to 45 mph, limited tornado risk, limited floodring risk and limited hail risk.

Widespread storms will develop across northwest and north central Illinois later Thursday afternoon and will move across the Chicagoland area on Thursday evening.

The NWS said isolated to scattered severe weather from the storms is possible, and the primary threat is strong winds, although a brief tornado is possible south of the I-80 corridor in parts of central and north central Illinois. There could also be minor flooding possible from heavy downpours.

Storms will move into the Chicago area between 8 p.m. and midnight. The storms will then move into Indiana between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., according to the NWS.
