Tornadoes, 70 MPH Winds Possible, Storm Watch Issued For IL
Hail and 70 mph winds are the main threats, and tornadoes are also possible.
ILLINOIS — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for counties in northern Illinois, including Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Lake, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago. The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday.
A severe storm warning was in effect for Cook, Kane and Lake counties until 5:15 p.m.
The National Weather Service said there is a significant thunderstorm risk, as well as an elevated damaging wind risk, elevated hail risk and limited tornado risk.

The NWS said the main threats with the storms will be wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to quarter size. A couple of tornadoes are also possible.
The excessive heat warning also remains in effect for most of the area until 7 p.m. Saturday.
