Storm Warnings: 70 MPH Wind Gusts Possible Across Illinois

Storm watches were in place in areas not affected by the storm warnings.

ILLINOIS — Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move into the area around mid-day Friday and continue through the evening. Severe storm warnings are in place for Cook and DuPage counties until 7:30 p.m. and in Kane, Kendall and DeKalb counties until 7:45 p.m. The storms could bring wind gusts of up to 70 mph and cause damage to trees, roofs and homes, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm watch was also issued until 9 p.m. for Cook, Grundy, Kane, Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kankakee, Will and DuPage counties.

According to the National Weather Service, storm threats include the possibility of a couple tornadoes, scatter hail up to ping-pong sized and high winds.

According to the weather service, strong to severe storms were expected to begin around 4 p.m. along and north of I-80, with some developing to the south. The severe threat is expected until 10 p.m.
