Two Holiday Concerts Planned At LHS

Admission to both concerts is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good or paper good.

LEMONT, IL — The Lemont High School music department invites the community to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season at its upcoming holiday concerts. The school said the concerts, which will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, and Thursday, Dec. 13, will feature different levels of the school’s band and the choir. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m., with the Performing Arts Center doors opening for general seating at 6:30 p.m.

On Dec. 6, members of the band and choir will form numerous small ensembles to put on a “Prism” concert. The school said the Dec. 13 event will feature both the bands and choir in a more traditional concert, with the ensembles performing full group numbers.

Lemont High School’s bands are under the direction of Matt Doherty and Dave Nommensen, while Stephanie Cesaroni leads the choirs.

The “Prism” show on Dec. 6 will offer both music written for the genre as well as a myriad of holiday favorites, and will feature an array of small student-led ensembles - including percussion, vocal, brass, woodwind, and mixed instrument duets, trios, quartets and quintets, the school said. The audience will be treated to a continuous stream of performance, fusing the music of several ensembles into a continuous stream of sound. Special lighting effects will add to the event, providing those in attendance with a sampling of the very best the school’s music department has to offer.

The combined Concert Band will perform several selections at the Dec. 13 concert, including “Ride” by Sam Hazo, “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Jack Bullock, and “Imani” by Sean O’Loughlin.

The school said the choir is slated to perform “Remembering Decembers” by Pinkzebra, “Winter Sleigh Ride” by Dean and Jean Perry, and “The Holly and the Ivy” arranged by Russell Robinson. The A Cappella Choir will entertain with “Magnum Mysterium” arranged by Evan Ramos, as well as Audrey Snyder’s “Tidings of Comfort and Joy.” The concert finale will feature all of the choir and band students teaming for their annual fan favorite sing along performance of Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival.”

Admission to both concerts is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good or paper good, which will in turn be donated to local food pantries.
