Two Inches Of Snow Possible For IL
This winter weather is part of Winter Storm Avery, which is the first winter storm of the 18-19 season.

Many people are seeing snowflakes in northern Illinois, and snow will continue until Thursday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, light snow is expected to spread northward over northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana this morning. Accumulations up to two inches are possible south of I-80. If you are north of I-80, you should expect little accumulation, the NWS said.
The Weather Channel has named this winter weather Winter Storm Avery, the first of the 2018-19 season. The storm spreads from Illinois to Mississippi and it will move out east to New York.

The NWS said drivers may encounter snow or slush covered roads and should slow down and increase following distance. Drivers should also always slow down if they see a snow plow and give the plow room to work.

The Chicago and Rockford area has also been experiencing colder than normal temperatures this year. Only 13 percent of previous years dating back to 1871 have experienced a high temperature below 30 degrees this early in the season, the NWS said. The average first sub-30 degree high isn't normally until Nov. 28.
