Lemont Firefighters Rescue Teen Who Fell In Canal

Nine teens were written trespassing tickets after one teen accidentally fell in the canal running from police.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont firefighters rescued a man who fell in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal early Friday morning. According to Northern Illinois Fire Ground Photos, the incident happened at 12:50 a.m. after a teenager accidentally fell in the canal while partying along the bank with several others.

Police said nine teenagers, all between the ages of 17 and 18, were written ordinance violations for trespassing. The teenager who ran from police and accidentally fell into the canal was charged with obstruction of justice and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

The rescue was made by Lemont firefighters in the 15100 block of Main Street, and the Coast Guard and Romeoville Fire Department boats were returned from the scene.

NIFG reported the victim was able to walk to an ambulance and was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

Lemont Police have already written several tickets this summer for those trespassing at the quarries. Police remind residents there is no swimming allowed at all and the quarries completely close at dusk.
