Well No. 6 Project 'Coming Along', Outdoor Water Ban Continues

Lemont village officials won't commit to completion date of the well, but urge residents to keep using odd-even system for outdoor watering.

LEMONT, IL — Ninety percent of the Well No. 6 has been completed, village officials announced Thursday, but local residents are reminded that the ban on outdoor water use continues.

Installation of the well is scheduled to be completed by next week, which will be followed up by electrical connections, chlorination, and testing by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Village officials said Thursday that it is extremely important for local residents to continue to follow the odd/even restrictions when the well is put back into service. The system operates based on addresses with odd-numbered house numbers water on odd-numbered days of the month and addresses with even numbers do so on even-numbered days of the month.

Village officials said earlier this week that they do not have a specific date when the well project will be complete, but said it should be “soon.”

“The project is moving forward and I can’t wait until it’s complete,” Public Works Director Ralph Pukula told the village council at its meeting on Monday night. “All the pieces are there, they’re just putting the puzzle together and putting everything back. I’m not going to make any promises on timing, but whenever we go back to whatever is normal, we need to make sure we keep with the odd-even restriction.

“The surge is going to be very nerve-racking for our water operator because I know a lot of people want to get out there and water their grass.”
