White Christmas For Illinois? Here's What You Can Expect

Christmas Day is just six days away, and there's not a flake of snow on the ground. According to the National Weather Service, the Chicago suburbs historically have had a 41 to 50 percent chance of a white Christmas. Will we have a white Christmas this year? Maybe, according to forecasts.

The NWS defines a white Christmas as having at least an inch of snow on the ground. While we don't have any snow cover yet, there could be a chance this weekend.

While Wednesday has no snow in the forecast, there is a chance of a wintry mix possible on Thursday night, especially north of I-80. According to the NWS, the chance of snow appears again on Friday night. While there are no predictions for major accumulation, there could also be a possibility of snow on Sunday, Christmas Eve.

If you were hoping for a large snowfall to blanket the area, you may be disappointed. However, there's a small chance that we may see a couple of flakes falling before Christmas Day.

• THURSDAY NIGHT: A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 34.
• FRIDAY: A 40 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 43.
• FRIDAY NIGHT: A chance of rain before 9 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., then a chance of snow after 11 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 26.
• SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31.
• SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.
• SUNDAY: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 24.
• SUNDAY NIGHT: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11.
• MONDAY: Christmas Day. Partly sunny, with a high near 20.
