Winter Storm Warning Issued For Lemont

Heavy lake effect snow is expected Friday for central and south Cook County.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont is under a winter storm warning through Friday night, as 6 inches of snow is possible for some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Lemont is also under a winter storm watch, which is in effect from midnight to noon on Saturday.

The weather service said there could be heavy lake effect snow for areas under the winter storm warning, which includes central and southern Cook County.

Travel could be very difficult, with near white-out conditions possible.

"A burst of accumulating snow is expected through early afternoon, with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour at times," the weather service said.

A short break is then possible, before a second round of intense lake effect snow, the weather service said. The lake effect snow could bring a few hours of snowfall rates up to 2 inches per hour on Friday evening.

Lake effect snow conditions can vary from near white-out conditions to dry weather just a few miles away, the weather service advised.
