Counties south of Chicago have now been issued winter storm watches, as the storm moves into the area.

ILLINOIS — Winter storm watches have been extended further south as a winter storm is expected to move into the area Tuesday. The National Weather Service had originally issued watches for counties north and west of Chicago, but now some southern counties have also been included in the watch.

The weather service has issued a winter storm watch for DuPage, Cook, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Will, McHenry and Lake counties. Heavy snowfall with totals in excess of six inches is possible with this snow storm, the weather service said.

Precipitation will begin as rain Monday, but will change over to snow Monday night. According to the weather service, travel could be very difficult, and the Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning commutes will be impacted.
