Zoning issues
Why we have problems with adjoining properties that go to County for zoning.
I once asked the Lemont Zoning Board members why we have restrictions that one, aren't enforced or two, are simply ridiculous. At issue, properties we would like to have annexed to our community but owners refuse to do so leaving them outside of our jurisdiction on zoning issues. To the point, I said restricting the parking of boats, motorhomes and the like might be reasonable on a small lot in town. However, a person "on the edge of town" with anywhere from one acre up to as much as five typically, has a lot of flexibility as to what they are privileged to do on that property. If they annex, they loose! I indicated that the ordinance should be changed...only to be told by a Planning Board member that "he didn't want to live in a town like that". It makes the case for why we have properties on our boarders that will not annex into Lemont and are left out there as easy pickings and decision's on their use by the County. If you live on an acre or more on the edge of town you are not punished by ordinances that are unreasonable and would apply if you annexed. So, I say, rework the ordinances! One "size" fits all does not work.
