1 Dead In Home Explosion Near Gurnee

In total, seven homes were damaged in the home explosion Friday night.

LAKE COUNTY, IL -- Authorities are investigating the death of a person whose body was found in a home near Gurnee following a home explosion, police said. The Lake County Sheriff's Office was called to the 36400 block of Streamwood Drive in unincorporated Gurnee at 6:05 p.m. Friday. There they found a home fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire by 8:30 p.m. About 15 minutes later, the Gurnee Fire Department found the body among the debris inside the home, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

In total, six other homes were damaged by debris from the explosion. A female occupant of one of the homes sustained a minor injury from falling debris in side her home, according to authorities. She was treated and released at the scene.

The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the explosion.
