Coroner IDs Man Killed In Wadsworth Crash

WADSWORTH, IL — The 45-year-old North Chicago man killed in a single-vehicle crash in Wadsworth over the weekend has been identified as Carlos A. Martinez, according to authorities.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene of the collision in the 16000 block of West Illinois Route 173 at about 3 a.m. on Sunday. When deputies arrived, they found a red 2002 Chevrolet Blazer on the side of the road.

The driver, who has been identified as Martinez, was unresponsive inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Martinez's Blazer was headed east on Route 173 nearing North Mill Creek Road when it went into the westbound lanes and into a ditch on the north side of the road before hitting a utility poll and trees. The vehicle ended up on its side.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
