11 Lake County Businesses Fail Tobacco Compliance Checks: Police

The Lake County Sheriff's Office checked 67 businesses to make sure clerks were selling tobacco to someone over the age of 21.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's Office has cited employees at 11 businesses for unlawfully selling tobacco or nicotine products during recent compliance checks.

In total, the sheriff's office checked 67 businesses that sell tobacco or nicotine products in Lake County during the tobacco compliance checks and 56 successfully passed the checks. The compliance checks are meant to make sure clerks are not selling tobacco or nicotine to anyone under the age of 21 years old, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

  • Mobil Gas, 39119 N. Lewis Avenue in Beach Park. Clerk Greta N. Heiser was cited.
  • Phillips 66, 41452 N. Green Bay Road in Wadsworth. Clerk Margarita S. Garcia was cited.
  • Love's Truck Stop, 43100 N. Route 41 in Wadsworth. Clerk Kayla M. Perez was cited.
  • Monster Cloud Vape & Cagar, 27273 Volo Village Road in Volo. Clerk Asif A. Sabri was cited.
  • Above Standard Vape CBD Glass Smoke, 34080 N. Route 45 in unincorporated Grayslake. Clerk Brianna E. Reid was cited.
  • Gages Lake Food & Liquor, 18495 W. Old Gages Lake Road in unincorporated Grayslake. Clerk Prakash C. Patel was cited.
  • Marathon Gas Station, 34238 N. Route 45 in Third Lake. Clerk Aamir Raze was cited.
  • BP Gas Station, 36044 N. Route 45 in unincorporated Lake Villa. Clerk Kiran P. Singh was cited.
  • Mobil Gas Station, 18450 W. Grand Avenue in Unincorporated Gurnee. Clerk Mohammed Faizuddin was cited.
  • 7-Eleven, 20502 Milwaukee Avenue in unincorporated Deerfield. Clerk Mohammadreza Fathi was cited.
  • LB Mart, 5075 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington. Clerk Rachel A Maloney was cited.

The businesses checked include those within the jurisdiction of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, or communities that contract with the sheriff’s office for policing services, but does not include businesses those within municipal city and village limits.

This compliance check detail was funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services division of substance use prevention and recovery.
