2 Killed In Head-On Crash With Semi In Northern Lake County

A man and woman from Stoughton, Wisconsin, died in the three-vehicle collision Tuesday morning in Wadsworth.

WADSWORTH, IL — A Wisconsin man and woman are dead following a three-vehicle collision Thursday morning in Wadsworth.

The collision happened just before 8 a.m. when a 2009 Acura sedan, driven by a 51-year-old man from Stoughton, Wisconsin, was headed east on Route 173 near North Kilbourne Road and "appeared to be having difficulty" staying in his lane, authorities said.

The car drifted into the pathway of a westbound Freightliner semi-truck, which was carrying a trailer loaded with about 35,000 pounds, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

After the initial collision between the semi and the sedan, an eastbound Honda minivan, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Salem, Wisconsin, also collided with the sedan, police said.

The driver of the Acura and a front seat passenger in the sedan, a 45-year-old woman from Stoughton, Wisconsin, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the semi, a 24-year-old Evergreen Park man, was not injured.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and autopsies are being scheduled.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
